Our Story

Genesis.

She is not the face of the brand. She is its architecture.

Kolo began with a simple conviction: clothing could do more than dress a woman. It could change how she occupies a room. What began in Cameroon has grown into a fashion house shaped by heritage, experimentation, craftsmanship and an unwavering belief in individuality.

The Name

Kolo comes from Cameroonian Pidgin. To be kolo is to be the kind of different that rearranges the room; not louder, not larger, simply undeniable.

The Architect

The woman behind the architecture.

Chlautille Fobuzie

Professionally known as Kolo, Chlautille Fobuzie is the founder and Creative Director of Kolo Designz. A proud daughter of Chomba in Cameroon’s Northwest Region, she draws from the richness of her heritage while looking far beyond it for inspiration. With a background in Economics and more than seven years in fashion, she approaches Kolo as both a creative practice and a growing fashion house, where imagination and enterprise have to exist together. Her design language moves freely between bridal couture, statement pieces, contemporary fashion, cultural expression, casual chic and refined elegance. What connects them is not a particular silhouette. It is the Kolo point of view: unexpected, intentional and unmistakably present.

Douala → Global.

Every silhouette begins in her mind.

Kolo Lab Kouture
I do not design garments. I design presence. Every silhouette that leaves The Kolo Lab carries the weight of where we come from; Douala, the crossroads of legacy and ambition; and the promise of where we are going. We are not asking for a seat at the table. We are building our own house, and we are inviting the world’s most discerning women to wear it.

Why Africa

Heritage is not a costume. It is a foundation.

Cameroon is not a reference we borrow for effect. It is the ground the house stands on. African heritage informs the work the way architecture informs a building: silently, structurally, everywhere.

  • Silhouette

The line comes first. Presence is drawn before it is decorated.

  • Textile

Cloth is chosen the way words are chosen, for weight, texture and meaning.

  • Colour

Colour carries memory. We use it with intention, never as noise.

  • Symbolism

Motifs and references hold stories. We let them speak quietly.

  • Craftsmanship

Hands carry knowledge across generations. The atelier honours that.

  • Cultural memory

What a community remembers lives on in how things are made.

  • Construction

Structure is where heritage becomes engineering.

  • Storytelling

Every piece enters a room with a story already in it.

Mission

To create distinctive fashion that celebrates individuality, craftsmanship and African heritage, translating cultural richness into contemporary pieces with the presence to move beyond borders.

Vision

To build Kolo into a globally trusted African luxury fashion house, known for distinctive design, exceptional craftsmanship and the unforgettable women who wear it.

Values

Six principles. None of them negotiable.

  1. 01

    Authenticity

We create from our own point of view. We do not design to disappear into the crowd.

  2. 02

    Dramatic elegance

Drama when the moment calls for it. Restraint when it doesn’t. Always with intention.

  3. 03

    Craftsmanship

The unseen hours matter. Every cut, stitch, embellishment and fitting contributes to the final presence.

  4. 04

    Heritage

Our culture is not decoration. It is a source of knowledge, identity and creative possibility.

  5. 05

    Individuality

The garment should reveal the woman, not overwhelm her.

  6. 06

    Global ambition

Rooted in Cameroon. Designed with the world in mind.

Douala / Global

Rooted in Douala. Worn by the world. The atelier travels to the client when the calendar allows.
